I was responsible for writing all of the breaking news content for the PBN.com homepage, and editing the online content of the six staff reporters. I also served as the technology reporter for the print edition (circulation: 36,000) covering local companies, startups, and related news. I also gave 55-second daily business news updates for radio station WPRV-AM.

Special projects: I initiated and implemented PBN’s first social media strategy on Facebook and Twitter. I was a major contributor to the redesign of PBN.com; I created the original layout and suggested many features of the new website to make it more user-friendly and modern.

I helped found the first social media news website available in Spanish with Jose Baig, long-time veteran of the BBC. While there, I developed a style guide specific to social media reporting for our reporters, setting guidelines on how to verify sources found through Facebook, Twitter, etc.
In less than 8 months, LCV built its readership to more than 20,000 unique monthly visitors.

I was responsible for securing and researching interview for correspondents with everyone from top Spanish government officials to the “man on the street.” Some of the more noteworthy stories include: a live interview with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal; U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s visit to Madrid; trial coverage of the March ‘04 terrorist bombings in Madrid.

While there, I refined my on- and off-camera abilities; wrote for both print and online publications in Spanish; and learned from accomplished journalists from around the world. My course ended with a 4-month internship at Barcelona’s La Vanguardia newspaper.
